CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon Tech hit Cascade Conference qualifying marks in four different events, as the women's track team opened the outdoor season on Day 1 of the PNW Invite at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
Athletes recorded program Top-5 marks in two events, combining for nine CCC meet standards on the day.
Three throwers hit the CCC mark in the discus – including a big throw from
Caitlyn Horrell, who posted a heave of 38.79 meters (127 feet, 3 inches), the No. 3 mark in OIT history. Both
Aurora Atwood (36.84 / 120-10) and
Amina Redfield (33.40 / 109-7) also punch their ticket to the league championships.
Under the lights,
Saundra Parsons flirted with the NAIA provisional qualifying standard, with her sixth-place effort of 11:29.37 finishing 10 seconds shy of the national mark – but well within the CCC cut. Teammates
Charis Childers (11:44.69) and
Corinne Childers (12:11.16) both hit the CCC standard.
Early in the meet, the sprint duo of
McKenna Donovan (25.69) and
Sydney Soskis (26.17) hit the league cut in the 200-meters, as did
Maevri Bergerson 10.26 / 33-8) in the triple jump.
Day 2 of the meet begins Saturday at 11 a.m.
