LA GRANDE, Ore. – A big day from
Sydney Soskis and
McKenna Donovan helped Oregon Tech score 32 team points, sitting in sixth-place after the opening day of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Banner Bank Track.
Both athletes earned All-CCC honors in the long jump, while joining
Ava Blatchford and
Lily Everson to post the fastest Lady Owls 4x100-meter time in nine years – clocking a time of 48.68 seconds.
Soskis placed second overall (5.69 meters / 18 feet, 8 inches) and Donovan (5.68 meters / 18-7 ½) placed third – with both athletes narrowly missing the NAIA "B" standard.
Eastern Oregon leads the meet with 92 points, just ahead of College of Idaho (82) and British Columbia (81).
On the track, OIT scored seven points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as
Saundra Parsons (11:42.06) placed fourth and
Charis Childers (11:49.10) took seventh for the Owls. In addition,
Chloe Crawford scored in the 10,000-meters (41:22.49) with a seventh-place finish.
In the throws, freshman
Kalina Saechao placed sixth with a throw of 12.06 meters (39-6 ¾) in the shot put.
Day 2 begins with field events at 11 a.m., with running events at 1 p.m.
