REDDING, Calif. – Oregon Tech could not rebound from a tough opening six holes in today's final round, as the Hustlin' Owls finished sixth overall at the Simpson Spring Invitational at Riverview Country Club.
COMPLETE RESULTS
OIT (303-285-307 – 895) had the best second round in the tournament, but a slow start hampered the final 18, dropping the Owls from fourth to sixth place in the final standings. Lewis-Clark State (282-291-291 – 864) earned team champion honors after posting an even-par 54-hole team score – nine shots ahead of host Simpson (289-291-293 – 873).
"We had some good things happen throughout the event and we need to focus on those positives," said head coach
Dave Myers. "We need to find consistency for 54 holes."
The Owls were led today by
Kade Bracken (83-75-72 – 230), one of only four players in the 56-player field to post a final round of even-par or better. Bracken climbed 14 positions in the standings to place 30th overall.
Tech was led by a ninth-place effort from
Cayson VanBeekum (74-68-77 – 219), with
Issey Tanimura (72-71-79 – 222) in 16th. Oliver Ausland (67-68-70 – 205) of Southern Oregon claimed medalist honors.
Silas Guzlas (74-77-79 – 230),
Colin Field (80-73-83 – 236),
Grayson Moore (88-71-79 – 238) and
Logan Strop (79-83-78 – 240) competed for the Owls.
The team will have two weeks to prepare for the upcoming Warner Pacific Invite, set for April 13-14.
