Second-Round Surge Vaults Tech Men into 4th at Simpson

REDDING, Calif. – Oregon Tech recorded the lowest Round 2 score of the day, pulling the Owls within striking distance after Day 1 of the Simpson Spring Invitational at Riverview Country Club.

Both Cayson VanBeekum and Issey Tanimura carded rounds under par, as OIT (303-285 – 588) vaulted into fourth-place in the team standings. Lewis-Clark State (282-291 – 573) leads host Simpson (289-291 – 580) by seven shots, with Jessup (291-291 – 582) in third.

"After a tough first round, it was nice to see the guys come through with the low second round," said head coach Dave Myers. "We will work to carry that momentum into tomorrow morning."

VanBeekum (74-68 – 142) sits in a tie for fourth-place at 2-under-par through 36 holes, seven shots off the pace of Southern Oregon's Oliver Ausland (67-68 – 135). Tanimura (72-71 – 143) was steady throughout the day, ending the afternoon at 1-under-par.

Five other OIT players competed, with Silas Guzlas (74-77 – 151) inside the Top-25 in 24th. Colin Field (80-73 – 153), Kade Bracken (83-75 – 158), Grayson Moore (88-71 – 159) and Logan Strop (79-83 – 162) rounded out the Tech athletes.
