REDDING, Calif. – Oregon Tech recorded the lowest Round 2 score of the day, pulling the Owls within striking distance after Day 1 of the Simpson Spring Invitational at Riverview Country Club.
Both
Cayson VanBeekum and
Issey Tanimura carded rounds under par, as OIT (303-285 – 588) vaulted into fourth-place in the team standings. Lewis-Clark State (282-291 – 573) leads host Simpson (289-291 – 580) by seven shots, with Jessup (291-291 – 582) in third.
"After a tough first round, it was nice to see the guys come through with the low second round," said head coach
Dave Myers. "We will work to carry that momentum into tomorrow morning."
VanBeekum (74-68 – 142) sits in a tie for fourth-place at 2-under-par through 36 holes, seven shots off the pace of Southern Oregon's Oliver Ausland (67-68 – 135). Tanimura (72-71 – 143) was steady throughout the day, ending the afternoon at 1-under-par.
Five other OIT players competed, with
Silas Guzlas (74-77 – 151) inside the Top-25 in 24th.
Colin Field (80-73 – 153),
Kade Bracken (83-75 – 158),
Grayson Moore (88-71 – 159) and
Logan Strop (79-83 – 162) rounded out the Tech athletes.
The final round of the 54-hole event begins Tuesday at 8 a.m.
