Weight Throw Record Falls in Indoor Track Opener

RENO, Nev. – Freshman Kalina Saechao set a new Oregon Tech school record in the weight throw, as the Lady Owls opened up the 2026 indoor season competing on Day 1 of the Nevada Invitational inside the Reno Events Center.
 
The Cascade High grad placed 12th in the event, recording a mark of 14.35 meters (47 feet, 1 inch) – surpassing the previous mark of 14.26 meters set by Katie Mull in 2024.
 
Four others competed in the event – as Aurora Atwood (13.69 / 44-1), Caitlyn Horrell (13.13 / 43-1), Emily Bitler (10.26 / 33-8) and Amina Redfield (8.13 / 26-8) each opened their seasons.
 
On the track, McKenna Donovan (8.06 seconds), Ruby Ford (8.23 seconds) and Sydney Soskis (8.36 seconds) each raced in the 60-meters, as did Lily Everson (10.55 seconds) in the 60-meter hurdles. Three of the four also competed in the long jump – with Soskis (5.07 / 16-7 ¾) leading the group, followed by Donovan (4.63 / 15-2 ¼) and Everson (3.86 / 12-8).
 
Day 2 of the meet begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
