EAGLE POINT, Ore. –
Tyler Vassar shot a final round 2-under-par 70, helping Oregon Tech hold off Bushnell for fourth place at the Southern Oregon Spring Classic at Stone Ridge Golf Course.
Vassar (73-76-70 – 219) led the squad with an 11th-place finish, rallying the Hustlin' Owls (298-301-301 – 900) with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes – pulling Tech even with Bushnell (305-295-301 – 901) – as the Beacons dropped a stroke on their final hole of the day to secure OIT a fourth-place finish.
"It was great to see Tyler post a very solid final round," said OIT head coach
Dave Myers. "His mental game is really improving and his putting was spot on today."
Day 1 leader LC State (286-278-290 – 854) and British Columbia (287-282-285 – 854) each finished the tournament at 10-under-par – with UBC winning a 5-player playoff to earn the team crown. LC's Alex Navarro (69-66-74 – 209) won medalist honors at 7-under-par.
Silas Guzlas (76-74-74 – 224) was the only other OIT player in the Top-25 – taking 22nd, with
Issey Tanimura (77-73-77 – 227),
Jack Tieman (72-79-80 – 231) and
Kade Bracken (79-78-80 – 237) all in the Top-40.
Tyce Helmick (78-81-80 – 239) competed for the Owls as an individual.
OIT closes out the regular-season in two weeks at the Cascade Conference Championships, hosted by Multnomah, in Portland, Ore.
