BUCKEYE, Ariz. –
Jack Tieman erased a 4-stroke deficit heading into the final round of the Firestorm Fall Invitational, parlaying six birdies into a 4-under-par 68, as the Oregon Tech senior claimed medalist honors of the 80-player tournament at Verrado Golf Club.
Tieman (70-72-68 – 210) started five groups ahead of the Day 2 leaders and used five birdies over a six-hole stretch midway through the round to post the 6-under-par score. Three players – Liam Toole (70-70-71 – 211) of Ottawa, Brady Meek (65-73-73 – 211) of Texas Wesleyan and Tyler Tamayori (72-71-68 – 211) of Embry-Riddle were all within one stroke with four holes to play – but each of the three failed to make a birdie to close out their rounds.
"Jack had a great mindset today," said OIT head coach
Dave Myers. "It is always awesome when it all comes together. What a wonderful win for him."
As a team, the Hustlin' Owls (286-296-293 – 875) finished the 54-hole tournament in a tie for fourth place with the University of Victoria (293-287-295 – 875) – 20 strokes behind team champion, Texas Wesleyan (278-289-288 – 855).
Cayson VanBeekum (67-75-76 – 218) placed 17th overall, while
Issey Tanimura (74-75-72 – 221) used an even-par final round to climb to 37th-place.
Silas Guzlas (75-74-79 – 228) and
Kade Bracken (84-87-77 – 248) rounded out the OIT players.
The event closes out the fall schedule for the Hustlin' Owls.
