The Argos have struggled offensively, scoring just four goals in eight matches, with the opposition posting a 148-35 shot edge, but UP has 1-0 victories over Warner Pacific and Corban to their ledger. Â
TECH GOES 0-FOR-HOMESTAND: Facing three of the top four teams in the CCC table, the Hustlin' Owls were unable to score any points – dropping matches to Southern Oregon, Rocky Mountain and Carroll, falling to 1-3-1 in league play. Against Rocky, the Owls gave up a goal in the first minute of the second half to break a 1-1 tie and played the final 20 minutes down a man – surrendering a late goal. Against Carroll, the Saints were able to muster 17 corner kick opportunities, scoring off a pair of the set-piece chances, to claim the win. It marks the first 3-match losing streak for the Owls since 2018 and the first 3-match losing streak in the Basin since 2016.
Â
GOAL SCORERS: The Owls scored a goal in both matches – marking the first time this season in which Tech scored a goal, but didn't come away with a win or draw. Against Rocky,
Sammy Villalta scored his first collegiate goal, heading home a free kick from
Cash Cota – helping OIT tie the score at the break. Against Carroll, Villalta provided the service into the box, with
Merrick Tambio headed home a second half goal that pulled the Owls within 2-1 – the sixth goal of his career.
Â
NUMBERS DON'T TELL STORY: In the two weekend matches, the Owls surrendered seven goals, but it didn't tell the story of how well keeper
Noah Harwood played. Of the goals, two were on penalty kicks, while the redshirt freshman made a career-high seven saves in each match – multiple stops from point-blank range – keeping Tech in both matches for the majority of the contests.
Â
