KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Carter Griffith scored a second half brace, helping visiting College of Idaho rally from a halftime deficit to top Oregon Tech, 2-1, in a key Cascade Conference men's soccer match-up.
Griffith broke a 1-1 tie in the 75th minute, driving home a feed from Greyson Pew, as the Yotes (2-5-5, 2-2-4 CCC) pulled ahead of Tech in the league standings.
OIT (4-4-5, 2-4-1) dominated the first 15 minutes, putting three shots on frame and earning five corner kicks. The Hustlin' Owls broke through 10 minutes in, as a
Lucas Kay-Wong corner was headed home at the back post by
Yahir Ramos. Both Kay-Wong and Ramos had quality chances - Kay-Wong narrowly missing a 25-yard drive and Ramos placed another header just wide of the target.
After the break, C of I dominated possession and finished with an 8-3 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes. Owls keeper
Noah Harwood did his best to keep the lead, stopping three shots in a 55th minute flurry inside the 6-yard-box, part of his seven save effort.
However, the Yotes got the equalizer in the 64th minute, as Griffith created space well outside the area and rocketed a 30-yard blast off the underside of the crossbar and into the net. Moments later, he completed his brace to give his side a lead they would not surrender.
C of I finished with a 12-11 edge in shots, while Tech had a 9-5 edge in corners.
OIT closes out the weekend tomorrow, hosting Eastern Oregon at 2:30 p.m.
