GREAT FALLS, Mont. – An early October snowstorm did not stop Oregon Tech from snapping a three-match losing streak, as the Hustlin' Owls dominated play in a 3-0 victory at the University of Providence.
Tech (4-3-5, 2-3-1 CCC) scored three times in the opening half and finished the afternoon with an 8-1 edge in shots, with
Noah Harwood making one save for his fifth shutout of the season.
"The boys battled hard," said head coach
Sean McManamon. "We stuck to the game plan and executed our chances in the first half to get control of the match. We have to take this momentum into next weekend."
With a wet snow falling, the Owls wasted no time in getting on the board, as
Lucas Kay-Wong played a cross to an unmarked
Kevin Alvarenga, who lined a 30-yard strike off the underside of the crossbar and in just 100 seconds into the match.
Kay-Wong got into the act in the 27th minute, as
Sammy Villalta chipped a pass into the right side of the box, with Kay-Wong volleying a shot past Argos (2-7-1, 2-5-1) keeper Thomas Sine and into the net.
The Owls capped the scoring with five minutes left in the half, as Kay-Wong placed a perfect thru-ball to a charging
Andrew George, who slotted a counter into the left corner of the frame.
With playing conditions deteriorating in the second half, the clubs combined for just five total shots.
Tech returns home next weekend for key match-ups against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
