AUSTIN, Texas - Oregon Tech pitcher
Kacie Schmidt was honored today as first-team selection to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team, announced by the governing body.
The senior, from Beaverton, joins
Kaila Mick,
Lexi Klum and Meagan Webber as the only 2-time recipients of the prestigious award - and one of only two players from the West on the 12 person team.
Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. The all-time list of 42,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.
Schmidt earned NAIA All-America honors this season after leading the Lady Owls with 24 wins in the circle, helping the team to a 45-11 record. She graduated with a degree in civil engineering and maintained a 3.88 GPA during her time at Tech.
