SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – No. 1 seed Southern Oregon University had to work hard to dispose of upset minded and No. 8 seeded Oregon Tech Wednesday night as the Raiders blanked OIT 1-0 for their 13
th shutout of the season in a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinal match presented by U.S. Bank at the Willamalane Sports Complex.
"Tonight was a really well fought battle," said Head Coach
Matt Munhall. "We played one of our best games of the year against a nationally rated opponent and the CCC regular season champions. Unfortunately, SOU found the back of the net and we didn't. I am so proud of who this group of men became over the course of this season. We had our highs and lows, but we were always bought in and really came together at the end. We say thank you and goodbye to nine seniors who are passing the torch to the underclassmen. It has been a wonderful journey with them and they have helped solidify our program for the future. The end of season is always bittersweet."
The Owls played a man down after attracting a red card 27 minutes into the contest and it was just a matter of time before the NAIA's 14
th ranked team found the back of the net. The eventual game winner came just three minutes into the second half as the Raiders scored on a set piece as a Luis Aguilar corner kick found Pessoa de Oliveira who headed in his fifth score of the season, and Aguilar got his fourth assist.
OIT is now 0-5 all-time against Southern Oregon.
Southern Oregon will now advance to Thursday's Semifinals while Oregon Tech's season comes to an end at 7-9-2.
