Stevens Wins Pole Vault, Tech 4th After Day 1 of CCC Meet

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eli Stevens dominated the field in the pole vault to claim his second title at the Cascade Conference Track & Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, as the Oregon Tech men sit alone in fourth-place after Day 1 of the event at Banner Bank Track.

Braedan Doherty added a second-place effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as the Hustlin' Owls head into the final day of the meet with 40 team points. College of Idaho leads the team race with 102 points, followed by Eastern Oregon (70), Trinity Western (43), OIT and British Columbia (38).

Only seven athletes were remaining in the field when Stevens entered the vault, clearing 4.61 meters (15 feet, 1 ½ inches) in his first attempt. After passing on the next height, Stevens was the only athlete to clear 4.81 meters (15 feet, 9 ¼ inches) to claim the title. The senior took three attempts at OIT's school record (5.00 meters) – but clipped the bar.

Doherty had a gutsy performance in the steeplechase, using a final kick over the last 300-meters to earn the silver medal in a time of 9:31.57 – earning All-CCC honors.

Kai Miles closed the running events with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meters (32:28.25) – earning the squad five team points.

Tech added points with three seventh-place finishes – Tate Wyman with a PR in the 110-meter hurdles (15.45), Thomas Adams in the 400-meters (49.13), with both runners joining Evan Sneed and Ryan Doherty to place in the 4x100-meter relay (42.74).

Day 2 begins with field events at 11 a.m., with running events at 1 p.m.
