OPPONENT PREVIEW – BRITISH COLUMBIA: The middle games of the homestand welcome British Columbia to the Basin, as the Thunderbirds (29-12, 23-6 CCC) look to extend a 4-game win streak. UBC advanced to the 2025 NAIA World Series, with the current club averaging over eight runs per game, ranking second in the league with 46 home runs and 97 stolen bases, with the pitching staff recording a quality 4.07 ERA with 369 strikeouts. Returning third baseman David Krahn (.372 6 HR 35 RBI), catcher Kyle Yip (.336 7 HR 36 RBI) and outfielder Kellen Bourne (.261 6 HR 34 RBI) have been joined by talented newcomers Kansai Sugimoto (.381 3 HR 29 RBI) and Josh Cote (.281 11 HR 36 RBI). The pitching rotation is excellent, led by lefty Will Anderson (4-4 3.40 ERA, 67 K) and righties Myles Chamberlain (7-1 2.80 ERA) and James Brock (8-2 4.47 ERA), with Lucas Huynh (0-0 3.07 ERA, 4 saves) and Kaden Douglas-Pluff (1-0 0.90 ERA) anchoring the pen. UBC holds a 99-35 series lead – but are just 39-23 in Klamath Falls.
Â
PLAYOFF PICTURE: OIT has vaulted into a 3-way tie for third place in the CCC standings at 14-15 alongside Bushnell and College of Idaho, with the teams four games clear of Corban for the final postseason spot in the CCC Championships (LC State and UBC have clinched the top two spots in the tourney). The three tied teams will have tough paths the final two weeks – as Bushnell faces LC and UBC, C of I hosts Eastern Oregon and Tech hosts UBC, before the Owls and C of I close out the regular-season. Following the final two regular-season series, the Top-5 teams in the standings will meet at the regular-season champ for the league tournament.
Â
ARC RATING: For the first time the season, OIT joined the West ARC rating on April 8, which helps determine at-large bids to the NAIA Championships, coming in at No. 12. Six other opponents are in rating – No. 2 LC State, No. 4 UBC, No. 5 OUAZ, No. 8 C of I, No. 9 Bushnell and No. 10 The Master's.
Â
SUCCESS AT HOME: The Owls continue a 12-game homestand this weekend, with the team 6-6 in games at Steen Sports Park. Since OIT moved to the facility off Foothills Drive in 2022, the club has posted a 60-24 overall record, including an 18-2 mark in 2025.
Â
3-STRAIGHT SERIES WINS: Tech won 2-of-3 CCC counters and 3-of-4 overall on the weekend against Corban – as the club claimed their third consecutive series win, improving to 10-4 over their last 14 games. During the run, the Owls have scored 10-or-more eight times, helping the team improve to 22-20 on the season – the sixth straight year with 22-or-more wins (after having just one 22-win season from 2011-20).
Â
BATS ERUPT: The Corban series had an extra-base explosion for the Hustlin' Owls, as the squad combined for 12 doubles, six triples and nine home runs in the set – while recording a season-high 17 hits in both of the Monday afternoon games. The Owls had three triples in the Game 2 win, the eighth time OIT has had 3-or-more triples in a game in program history, while in the Game 3 win, Tech clubbed five home runs (including three in a row at one point), the fourth time OIT has hit 5-or-more homers in a game.
Â
2-HOMER GAMES: For the first time this season, a Hustlin' Owl hit two homers in a game – as
Andrew Sharp hit a pair of long balls in the Game 1 loss. A day later,
Cal Pickhardt joined the party, blasting a pair of homers in the Game 3 victory – just the second time that OIT hitters had multi-homer games on back to back days (Cory Staniforth and Zack Earle in 2010,
Tyler Horner and
Julien Jones in 2025). Sharp continued his big season, going 6-for-12 with two doubles, three homers and six RBI – pushing his walk total to 36 (three away from the OIT single-season record). Pickhardt lived on base, going 7-for-12 with a double, triple, three homers and five RBI.
Â
TWO TRIPLES IN A GAME: Aiden Corkery tied an OIT single-game record, recording a pair of triples in the Game 4 win – the fifth Hustlin' Owl to reach the mark and first since Kai Fong had two triples in a game in 2018. The freshman posted his first 4-hit game of the year in the win, ending the weekend 7-for-16 with seven runs scored.
Â
HIT STREAK REACHES 20: Logan Macy needed his final at bat in Game 2 and Game 3 of the series to log a hit – but did enough to stretch a career-high hit streak to 20 games. It marks the fourth-longest hit streak in OIT history, trailing a 20-game hit streak from
Matthew Ortiz in 2023, a 23-game streak from Alex Poltz in 2019 and a record-setting 37-game hit streak by
Patrick Barry last season.
Â
MORE WITH THE BATS: Offense from up-and-down the batting order was crucial for the Hustlin' Owls – including big efforts from
Logan Pontecorvo and
Nick Gimino. Pontecorvo was 6-for-10 in the series, with two doubles, a homer and 10 RBI – posting his second 4-hit game of the year in the Game 3 win. Gimino had big hits throughout the series, going 6-for-15 with three runs scored and five RBI.
Nik Halouchits posted the first 3-hit game of his OIT career, going 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI in the Game 2 win, while in Game 4, both
Zack Morris and
Andrew Moore going 3-for-4, Morris driving in two runs, with Moore posting the first three hits of his college career – two doubles, a homer and adding four RBI. Three others –
Dylan Le,
Paul Zaragoza and
Chase Southern – each recorded their first collegiate hits in the Game 4 win.
Â
SOLID STARTS: Two OIT starters worked seven innings in the Corban series – as lefties
Carson Glavich and
Aiden Lundquist each put the Owls in a position to win. Glavich worked around two first inning runs, striking out five on the day – leaving the game with a 7-5 lead, while Lundquist threw Tech's second complete game, allowing three earned runs in the 15-5 Game 3 win, fanning two without a walk.
Â
BULLPEN ROLES: Tech did not have to utilize much of their bullpen vs. Corban – getting solid outings in the series from
Crew Howell,
Marcos Ulloa-Ford and
Enrique Perez. Howell gave the Owls a chance in Game 1, allowing just one run on two hits in four innings of relief, while Ulloa-Ford got the win in Game 2, striking out three of the four batters he faced. Perez had his best outing of the year, throwing three shutout frames, allowing just one hit and fanning two.
Â
AROUND THE CONFERENCE: UBC had a quality weekend at home, sweeping a 4-game series with C of I, while Warner Pacific kept their playoff hopes alive by taking 3-of-4 from Bushnell. LC State won a pair at Eastern, with the teams playing the final two games of the series next Tuesday. This week, LC is at Bushnell, Corban hosts Warner Pacific and C of I hosts Eastern.
