Baseball Game Notes Week 9

Men's Baseball

2026 Baseball Notebook (Week 9)

COMING UP: at Warner Pacific (DH), Friday, 11 a.m.; at Warner Pacific (DH), Saturday, 11 a.m.

GAME DAY INFORMATION: Live Stats of all games will be available through OIT's SIDEARM Stats Portal, with Warner Pacific hopeful that Friday's game will be carried on the Urban Edge Network – check the OIT Baseball home page for broadcast links.

SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR PORTLAND TRIP: The OIT and WPU series was shifted 24 hours earlier to avoid playing on Easter Sunday – with games played at two different venues. Friday, the two teams will play at the old Hillsboro Ballpark (at the Hillsboro Stadium complex) – the former home of the Hillsboro Hops, while Saturday, the teams will play at Milwaukie High School. Both doubleheaders are set for 11 a.m. starts.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – WARNER PACIFIC: The Owls head north this weekend for games at Warner Pacific, as the Knights (10-22, 5-16 CCC) look to snap a 6-game losing streak. WPU has struggled offensively, posting a .234 team batting average – posting just eight games with 10-or-more hits – with the club 1-18 this season when scoring four runs or less. Pitching has kept the Knights in games, as WPU is in the top five of the CCC in team ERA (6.06) – thanks to starters Donny Tober (0-2 3.31 ERA, .213 2 HR 10 RBI), Mason DeVerna (2-5 6.37 ERA, .235 2 HR 6 RBI), Jaxon Hamada (1-3 4.75 ERA) and Ayden Yeager (2-3 4.88 ERA). Offensively, outfielder Mitchell Thoma-Britt (.351 6 HR 29 RBI) has had a great season, with shortstop Connor Hale (.315 3 HR 20 RBI), first baseman Colin Schiller (.244 0 HR 12 RBI) and third baseman Trenton Lowe (.237 4 HR 9 RBI) key contributors. OIT won 7-of-8 meetings during WPU's first season of baseball in 30-plus years and hold a 16-2 all-time series lead.

FINAL ROAD TRIP: The trip to the Portland metro is the last regular-season road trip for the Owls, as Tech will play the 27th through 30th games on the road in 2026 – with the team 13-13 away from Klamath. The 30 games is not a school record, as the 2018 OIT team played 35 games away from the Basin and both the 2013 and 2023 teams played 34 games on the road.

SENIORS SHINE ON THE MOUND: Tech got back-to-back stellar starts in Saturday's doubleheader sweep, as seniors Landon Cheney and Carson Glavich recorded their best outings of the 2026 season. Cheney tossed just the sixth complete game by an OIT pitcher in the last five seasons – going eight innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, striking out a career-high eight batters in the 12-2 Game 1 win. Later in the day, Glavich held Eastern to six hits in seven innings, limiting the Mounties to just one run, while striking out a career-high eight in the victory. It marked the first time since the opening series of the season, that the Owls got back-to-back wins from starting pitchers.

LOW SCORING STREAK ENDS: The Hustlin' Owls 2-1 victory over Eastern in Game 2 of the series marked the first time in three seasons that Tech claimed a win when scoring two runs or less. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak when scoring 1-or-2 runs in a game, dating back to a 2024 1-0 home victory over British Columbia.

BATS COME ALIVE: Offense was key for the Owls against Eastern, as OIT posted double-digit runs and double-digit hits in three of the four games. Tech has posted 10-or-more runs 12 times during the 2026 season, adding 10-or-more hits in 22 of the 34 games played.

SHARP LIVES ON BASE: Tech catcher Andrew Sharp proved to be a tough out during the Eastern series, reaching base in 13-of-19 plate appearances – improving his team-leading on-base percentage to .509. The senior was 5-for-11 with a home and five RBI, adding six walks and two hit by pitches. Sharp has walked a CCC-leading 28 times, already the No. 16 single-season mark in OIT history – just 11 walks away from the single-season record.

COOK HAS BIG SERIES: Platooning at first base much of the season, senior Jacob Cook made the most of three starts during the EOU, going a combined 6-for-11 and scoring six runs. The kid from Klamath Falls drove in five runs in Sunday's twinbill, adding a pair of doubles and three walks – improving his season on-base percentage to .465.

ROMAN SETS THE TABLE: Leadoff hitter Jojo Roman has thrived at the top of the order the past two series – including a 6-for-16, six run performance in the EOU set. The utility player is riding a 9-game hitting streak, watching his batting average climb from .278 to .349 – going a combined 14-for-29 during the run. Roman became the second Tech player to score four runs in a game, trotting home four times in the Game 3 win.

MACY EXTENDS HIT STREAK: Shortstop Logan Macy recorded a hit in all four weekend games, extending a career-best hitting streak to 13 games. The sophomore, who has reached base in 21-straight games, has hit safely in every game since March 8 – adding his 14th multi-hit game in Saturday's series opener.

MORE WITH THE STICKS: Four other Owls had quality weekends against Eastern, as Nick Gimino, Michael O'Daniel, Cal Pickhardt and Aiden Corkery helping OIT to the series win. Gimino finished 6-for-15 in the four games, scoring six runs and adding three RBI, drawing a pair of walks and a hit by pitch, with O'Daniel going 5-for-14 with two doubles, his third home run and two RBI, scoring five runs. Pickhardt was 6-for-14 with three doubles a grand slam homer and five RBI, with Corkery going 5-for-13 with a double and triple, recording five RBI in the Game 3 win, the first five-RBI game by an Owl this season.

AROUND THE CONFERENCE: The top two teams in the CCC – LC State and British Columbia each swept their home series last weekend, with the two teams set for a weekend first-place showdown in Lewiston. Bushnell won a series at home vs. Corban, jumping into fourth-place, one game back of C of I – with the Beacons hosting Eastern Oregon. Third-place C of I looks to rebound at home vs. Corban, while fifth-place Tech heads to Warner Pacific.
