2026 Baseball Notebook (Week 8)

COMING UP: vs. Eastern Oregon (DH), Saturday, 12 p.m.; vs. Eastern Oregon (DH), Sunday, 11 a.m.

GAME DAY INFORMATION: Live Stats of all games will be available through OIT's SIDEARM Stats Portal, while all Cascade Conference games will be broadcast live on the Urban Edge Network with Mike Safford on the call.

SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR PORTLAND TRIP: Next week, the Hustlin' Owls play the final road games of the season, traveling to the Portland metro for a 4-game series against Warner Pacific. The Knights have changed the dates and locations of games – with OIT and WPU seeing the series shifted 24 hours earlier to avoid playing on Easter Sunday. Next Friday, the two teams will play at Hillsboro Ballpark (at the Hillsboro Stadium complex) – the former home of the Hillsboro Hops, while next Saturday, the teams will play at Milwaukie High School. Both doubleheaders are set for 11 a.m. starts.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – EASTERN OREGON: This week, the Owls play the first of three CCC teams they have already faced in 2026, as Eastern Oregon make the tour of the Basin. The Mountaineers (8-19, 5-12 CCC) have won at least one game in each of their CCC series, including the non-counting Game 4 vs. OIT – ending a 22-game losing streak to Tech. EOU has a .254 team batting average and averages 5.5 runs a game, but the team is stellar defensively, leading the CCC in fielding percentage (.973). Jace Nagler (.390 10 HR 26 RBI, 15 SB) shares the league lead in home runs, with the trio of Alex Olague (.342 3 HR 18 RBI), Mario Landeros (.260 1 HR 17 RBI) and Lucas Smith (.297 4 HR 12 RBI) leading the batting order. Starters Easton Corey (2-3 5.11 ERA, 42 K), Jace Schow (0-4 6.66 ERA) and Reed Stamps (0-2 8.34 ERA) are the top pitchers in the Eastern rotation, with Joey Weissenfels (1-0 5.65 ERA, 1 save) the top reliever. OIT holds a 61-41 series lead, including a 30-2 mark since 2020.

OWLS HAVE TOUGH TRIP TO COZY YARD: Playing in the smallest ballpark in the CCC, Bushnell took advantage of their home field advantage, taking 3-of-4 games from the Owls. The smaller dimensions saw the two teams combine for 16 home runs, with BU recording a 38-33 edge in runs and 51-41 edge in hits. Tech had chances in each of the four games – claiming a 15-8 win in Game 3 after taking a 10-0 lead in the fifth.

INFIELDERS LEAD THE TECH ATTACK: Three OIT infielders were key to the offensive charge at Bushnell, as Nick Gimino, Logan Macy and Andrew Sharp each had solid weekends. Gimino finished the series 7-for-16 with five runs scores, adding a homer and four RBI; Macy was 6-for-19 with three doubles and six RBI; with Sharp going 5-for-15 with a home run and six RBI.

ROMAN GETS ON – TIMES 11: The Owls got a monster doubleheader from transfer JoJo Roman, who led the club with eight hits in the series, finishing the 4-game series 8-for-13 at the plate with six runs scored. The junior reached back in 11-straight plate appearances, getting five hits, three walks and three hit by pitches in successive at bats – equaling the stretch of at bats Tyler Horner had in the 2024 season. Roman enters the weekend leading the team with a .489 on-base percentage, while hitting .343 – third-best among regulars.

PITCHING STAFF LOOKS TO REBOUND: It has been a rough stretch for the OIT pitching staff, as the Owls have allowed 6-or-more runs in 8-straight games, 10-or-more hits in 9-straight games, while surrendering multiple home runs in the last five games – as the Owls team ERA jumping from 5.36 to 6.43 during the stretch. Tech has allowed 6-or-more runs 19 times this season, with the team 5-14 in those games (including a 0-7 mark when allowing 10-or-more runs).

LOCAL ARMS KEY AT BUSHNELL: All was not lost on the mound in the Bushnell series, as both Marcos Ulloa-Ford and Caleb Randolph had quality outings. Ulloa-Ford worked into the seventh inning for his second-straight start, allowing three earned runs and striking out seven – with the redshirt freshman heading into the weekend with a 3.34 ERA, No. 7 in the CCC, having walked just six batters and striking out 33 in 32 innings of work. Randolph earned his first save of the season after a 4-inning performance in Game 3, holding BU to two runs on three hits, striking out four – dropping his ERA to 3.86 in 23 innings.

WILLIAMS ADDED TO ACTIVE ROSTER: The Owls made a roster move last week, adding Logan Williams to the active roster. The junior transfer, from Blue Mountain CC, is still expected to use his redshirt year, but will utilize the 20% games limit during the remainder of the season. Williams will wear No. 41.

WILL BOCCHI FIELD BE THE TONIC: Tech returns to the spacious confines of Bocchi Field this weekend for the Eastern Oregon series, with the Hustlin' Owls set to play 16 of their final 20 games on their own diamond. Playing in their own ballpark has been key for OIT since moving their home facility from Kiger Stadium to the venue off Foothills Boulevard, as the club has a 54-22 record in the five-plus seasons at the Steen Sports Park facility.

AROUND THE CONFERENCE: Lewis-Clark State and British Columbia have pulled away from the rest of the field, leading the Cascade Conference with 14-3 records – as LC swept a 4-game series with Corban and UBC took 3-of-4 games at Eastern Oregon. C of I is at 11-6 after splitting four home games with Warner Pacific, with the remaining five teams all separated by just two games with 20 games left in the CCC season – with two of the teams set to earn a CCC Tournament bid. This week, along with EOU making the trip to the Basin, Corban travels to rival Bushnell, C of I is off to LC State, with UBC returning home for a series vs. Warner Pacific.
