Tech Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Nick Gimino went 3-for-4 with a home run and Michael O'Daniel scored four runs, as Oregon Tech snapped a losing streak with a convincing 15-8 victory over Bushnell in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Hamlin Sports Complex.

The host Beacons (15-15, 7-10 CCC) rallied in Game 2, breaking a 2-2 tie with three late-inning home runs to claim an 8-2 win to secure the series win.

In the opener, the Owls (13-17, 6-12) never trailed, taking a 10-0 lead in the fifth inning. Andrew Sharp started the run with a first inning 2-run homer, Logan Macy capped a 6-run fourth with a 3-run double and O'Daniel launched a homer in the fifth.

BU got back in the game, as a Broderick Buhr 3-run blast in the fifth cut the margin to 10-6, but OIT answered in the seventh with a pinch-hit Landon Cheney RBI single and a Gimino 2-run homer to put the game away.

Aiden Lundquist grinded through five innings for the win, with Caleb Randolph holding the Beacons to three hits over the final four innings for the save. Sharp, O'Daniel and JoJo Roman each had two hits in the win for Tech.

The Owls had a chance in Game 2, taking a 2-0 lead after a Gimino first inning RBI single and a second inning sacrifice fly from Sharp – but BU starter Austin Wolfe struck out 13 OIT batters in eight innings of work.

Tech starter Marcos Ulloa-Ford had another quality start – holding the potent BU lineup to two unearned runs through six innings, striking out seven, before Nate Stevens hit a one-out solo homer in the seventh to give the Beacons the lead. The home run ball continued against the bullpen, as Jaden Thomson hit a back-breaking grand slam homer and an inning later, Danny Womack hit a solo blast to cap the scoring.

Both Macy and Gimino led the Owls with two hits in the loss.

The Owls return to the Basin next weekend, hosting Eastern Oregon in a 4-game series.
