OPPONENT PREVIEW – COLLEGE OF IDAHO: A long trek to the Gem State awaits the Owls and the first of two series this season against College of Idaho, as the Coyotes (12-4, 4-2 CCC) are off to a great start in 2026. C of I opened the year with a road sweep at Park Gilbert, followed by series wins against Pacific and Eastern Oregon, before splitting a 4-game set at Corban. Offense has been the key for the Yotes, as the club leads the league in runs per game (10.1), with the team posting a .313 batting average and 39 stolen bases. CCC Player of the Week, Austin Moon (.444 0 HR 15 RBI) leads the way, with the quartet of James Hull (.387 1 HR 16 RBI), Cody Guy (.386 2 HR 8 RBI), Darren Smith (.362 2 HR 15 RBI) and Jack Ryan (.353 4 HR 13 RBI) all having quality seasons. The C of I pitching staff has a 4.63 ERA with 78 walks against 92 strikeouts, as Jackson Cummins (2-0 3.32 ERA) anchors the rotation. Starters Zaylor Bruegeman (1-1 5.06 ERA) and relievers Calvin Euper (1-0 0.00 ERA), Willy Shirts (3-0 0.00 ERA) and Heath Sasser-Gunson (2-0 1.69 ERA) are key to the Yotes success. C of I holds a 109-50 series lead, but Tech is a combined 12-2 against the Coyotes over the past three seasons.
Â
ROAD WARRIORS: Tech continues their road tour, playing four games in Idaho – pushing their opening trip to 22-straight games. Last season, the Owls opened the year with 24-straight road games, but both are well behind the school record of 39-straight road games to open the 2012 season.
Â
RETURNING HOME: The trip to the Treasure Valley of Idaho is a homecoming for
Landon Cheney (Nampa),
Paul Zaragoza (Boise), Hayden Van Aaker (Kuna),
Collin Hysell (Payette) and
Chase Southern (Mountain Home) – all who grew up within a hour of the C of I campus.
Â
CONFERENCE SWEEP IN LA GRANDE: The Owls rebounded in a big way in the Grande Ronde Valley, sweeping the 3-game CCC series at Eastern Oregon, before dropping the non-league finale. Tech scored at least seven runs and had 10-or-more hits in each of the games – winning their 12th-straight series against EOU, dating back to 2004.
Â
EXTRA INNING WIN: OIT played their first extra inning game of the season on Sunday, rallying for a 9-8 victory in 10 innings. The Owls rallied from a 6-5 deficit in the eighth inning and taking the lead for good with a pair of runs in the tenth. It was the first extra inning game since a marathon 17-inning win at LC State last March, with the Owls improving to 30-47 in extra inning games since 2003 (and 17-20 in 10-inning games).
Â
FRESHMAN HAS BIG DOUBLEHEADER: Saturday was a monster twinbill for freshman
Aiden Corkery, who provided two huge hits in the Day 1 sweep. The outfielder had the big swing in the first inning of Game 1, blasting a grand slam home run to center field, while providing a 2-run double in the Game 2 victory. Corkery finished the afternoon a combined 4-for-10 with four runs scored and seven RBI.
EDWARDS HAS QUALITY SERIES: The Hustlin' Owls got a boost from outfielder
Dylan Edwards, who recorded a hit and an RBI in each of the four games in La Grande. The transfer finished the weekend 5-for-12 at the plate, driving in five runs, helping his batting average climb 49 points.
Â
MORE WITH THE BATS: Production throughout the lineup led to the Owls series victory in La Grande, as
Andrew Sharp and
Logan Pontecorvo highlighted the attack, with
Logan Macy,
Michael O'Daniel and
Cal Pickhardt all providing big at bats. Sharp led the team with seven hits in the series, going 7-for-17 with three RBI, with Pontecorvo finishing 6-for-12 with three RBI through the first three games of the weekend. Pickhardt was 5-for-17 with six RBI – including a key 3-run homer, O'Daniel was 4-for-15, but scored six runs, with Macy posting five hits and six runs scored and delivered the go-ahead RBI double in the tenth inning of Game 3.

Caleb Randolph. Ulloa-Ford threw four innings, between two appearances – allowing just one hit and striking out five, including a strikeout with the bases loaded and two outs in Game 1 to earn a save. Howell threw three and two-thirds innings of relief in Game 2, allowing just two hits and striking out five, Hysell threw three and two-thirds innings in Game 3, allowing just two runs on three hits, striking out five, with Randolph allowing just one run and striking out three in three-plus innings of work.
Â
AROUND THE CONFERENCE: Sweeps were the norm in the Cascade Conference last weekend, as three of the four series saw teams win all three league counters – as LC State (over Warner Pacific), UBC (over Bushnell) and OIT (over Eastern Oregon) recorded 3-0 conference marks. C of I won their series at Corban, two games to one. This week, along with OIT traveling to C of I, UBC is at Warner Pacific, Eastern is at Corban, with Bushnell at LC – as the teams close out the third week of 3-game league series.
