CALDWELL, Idaho – Oregon Tech used a 13-hit attack to earn a run-rule victory at College of Idaho, splitting a key Cascade Conference baseball doubleheader at Wolfe Field.
After C of I (13-5, 5-3 CCC) handcuffed the Tech bats in a 7-2 victory in the opener, both
Andrew Sharp and
Thomas Smith drove in four runs in a key 14-4 win.
Playing their 19th and 20th-straight road games to start the season, the Hustlin' Owls (12-8, 5-4) started slow, as the Yotes Jackson Cummins limited the visitors to five hits in seven innings for the win.
Corbin Sterner was the offense for C of I, driving in a pair with a single to cap a 4-run first and added a solo homer in the fourth.
OIT got their two runs in the third on a Sharp sacrifice fly and a
Dylan Edwards RBI single, with
Logan Macy recorded a pair of hits in the loss.
In the nightcap, the Owls trailed 2-1 in the third, before Sharp belted a 2-out, 2-run homer to give Tech the lead. OIT would pile on, as Sharp and Smith each had 2-run singles in a 5-run fifth, with Smith and Edwards adding 2-run singles in the sixth to extend the lead to 12-3.
Landon Cheney went five innings for the win, working around two earned runs and seven hits, with
Marcos Ulloa-Ford earning a 3-inning save, allowing just one run and two hits.
Sharp, Macy, Smith,
Michael O'Daniel and
Nick Gimino each had two hits, with
JoJo Roman, Edwards and Macy all scoring three runs.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
