ROSEBURG, Ore. – Oregon Tech's
Eli Stevens made the most of a difficult situation, posting three Cascade Conference meet qualifying marks, including a personal best throw in the javelin, while claiming victory in the decathlon at the Riverhawk Multi Meet at Umpqua Community College.
The senior finished the day with 6,316 points, currently the top mark in the NAIA – with the score hampered by Stevens having to add a sixth event to the day due to a timing malfunction in yesterday's 400-meter race.
Stevens eased to a 56.95 second 400 – seven seconds slower than his hand-time from Monday – but was able to post a point total in the event.
From there, Stevens dominated, hitting a CCC mark in the 110-meter hurdles (16.84) and threw the discus 32.78 meters (107 feet, 6 inches). He was a half-inch shy of hitting the NAIA "B" mark in the pole vault (4.79 meters / 15 feet, 8 ½ inches), while unleashing a league-qualifying mark in the javelin (48.13 / 157-11), before ending the day with a 5:03.43 1,500-meter run.
Bryson Teal competed in the field events today – posting marks in the discus (20.55 / 67-5), pole vault (3.39 / 11-1 ½) and javelin (36.41 / 119-5), ending the decathlon with 3,126 points.
The Owls return to the track in two weeks at the Jenn Boyman Invitational in McMinnville.
