LA GRANDE, Ore. –
Tucker Piper broke Oregon Tech's 1,000-meter school record, as did the 4x400-meter relay team, highlighting the Hustlin' Owls on Day 1 of the EOU Last Chance Meet.
Piper recorded a time of 2:28.51, nearly four seconds faster than his own school record – missing the NAIA "B" standard by a half second.
The 4x400 team of
Eli Stevens,
Ryan Doherty,
Evan Sneed and
Thomas Adams clocked a time of 3:19.64 – a second and a half of the NAIA provisional mark.
Doherty and
Bryson Teal are halfway finished with the heptathlon – Doherty with 2,308 points and Teal with 2,185. Teal led the way in the 60-meters (7.44) and long jump (5.91 m), with Doherty solid in the shot put (9.70 m) and high jump (1.80 m).
Other Hustlin' Owls in action was
Jacob Janeczko in the weight throw (14.03 meters / 46 feet, 0 ½ inches,
Cole Leader (12.60 / 41-4 ½) and
Hadyn Burk (12.46 / 40-10 ½) in the triple jump and
Bryce Worrell in the 1,000-meters (2:39.57).
Day 2 of the meet starts Saturday at 10 a.m.
