RENO, Nev. –
Eli Stevens punched his ticket to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, hitting the qualifying standard in the pole vault on Day 1 of the season-opening Nevada Invitational inside the Reno Events Center.
The senior cleared four consecutive heights and was one of two competitors to surpass 4.75 meters (15 feet, 7 inches) – meeting the NAIA standard.

Jacob Janeczko also had a big debut, breaking Tech's weight throw school record with a heave of 14.23 meters (46-8 ¼), nearly a full meter beyond the previous best OIT mark.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Tate Wyman,
Bud Patzke and Stevens each recorded personal best times, Wyman placing tenth (8.79 seconds), Patzke taking 12th (8.85) and Stevens 15th (9.08).
Other competitors on the day included
Tyler McIntosh competing in the 60-meters (7.64) and long jump (5.94 meters / 19-6);
Logan Shurts in the pole vault (4.30 / 14-1 ¼) and long jump (6.05 / 19-10 ¾), Wyman in the long jump (6.30 / 20-8) and
Zachary Hart in the weight throw (13.13 / 43-1).
Day 2 of the meet begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
