KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – For the first time in 12 years, Oregon Tech played host to the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships, as the Hustlin' Owls were one of seven teams competing on Day 1 of the decathlon at Moehl Stadium.
Bryson Teal, competing in his first decathlon, sits in ninth place through five events, while
Eli Stevens, the CCC's leader in the event coming into the meet, was forced to withdraw due to injury followng the long jump.
Eastern Oregon's Justin Krabbenhoft holds the Day 1 lead with 3,714 points – earning victories in the 100-meters, the long jump and the 400-meters. Mountaineer teammate Tyler Jones sits in second with 3,614 points – recording a win in the high jump.
Stevens was in second place after recording a time of 11.53 seconds in the 100-meters and posting a mark of 6.40 meters (21 feet) on his first attempt in the long jump – prior to the injury.
Teal had his best performance in the 100-meters (11.87), placing sixth, while recording marks of 5.81 meters (19-0 ¾) in the long jump, 6.66 meters (21-10 ¼) in the shot put, 1.67 meters (5-5 ¾) in the high jump and 54.55 seconds in the 400-meters. The freshman scored 2,647 points – 224 points out of eighth place.
Day 2 of the event begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. – with the 110-meter hurdles.
