FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Eli Stevens claimed the decathlon title at the Pacific Multi-Event Meet, as the Oregon Tech junior posted the top mark in the NAIA this season at Hanson Stadium.
Stevens had a personal-best time of 16.56 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and added a win in the pole vault (4.84 meters | 15 feet, 10 1/2 inches) – hitting the NAIA national standard in the event – helping him to a 10-event score of 6,668 points, over 300 points higher than his previous best score.
The Hustlin' Owl overcame a rough discus, where he fouled on his first attempt – but posted a standing mark of 30.36 meters (99-7), adding a solid throw of 44.18 meters (144-11) in the javelin. Stevens capped the day with a 4:50 1,500-meter run.
In addition, Madi Perkins competed in the women's heptathlon, placing 18th with a score of 2,614 points. The freshman ended the day with a mark of 3.88 meters (12-8) in the long jump, a 34.19-meter (112-1) javelin throw, while clocking a time of 2:44 in the 800-meters.
The remainder of the OIT team will compete this weekend at the Humboldt Invitational in Arcata, Calif.
