INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – A late race charge by the Oregon Tech scoring five helped the Hustlin' Owls power past Lewis-Clark State, placing seventh overall at the Cascade Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Oak Knoll Golf Course.
Competing in the deepest field in league history, the Hustlin' Owls finished with a 51-second split between their first and fifth runners over the 8-kilometer course, overcoming LC State over the final 2,000-meters. Tech finished with 174 place points, six ahead of the Warriors (180).
Eastern Oregon (71) claimed the team title – placing five competitors inside the Top-21 – outlasting four other Top-20 teams. Southern Oregon (89), College of Idaho (91) and Trinity Western (93) were just behind the Mounties.
Freshman
Elijah Zavala paced the three-racer front pack for the Owls, clocking a time of 25:44, earning a 26th-place finish. Sophomore
Kai Miles finished right behind Zavala with a time of 25:46, while junior
Bryce Worrell (25:49) was 32nd. Junior
Braedan Doherty had a tremendous race, finishing 42nd (26:09), with freshman
Daxton Wilson (26:35) rounding out the scoring group in 50th-place.
Trinity Western runners Yemane Mulugeta (24:03) and Justin Kiplagat (24:10) took the top two spots, just ahead of Corban's Jack Gladfelter (24:15).
