RENO, Nev. – Freshman
Tyas Selby made an immediate impact for the Hustlin' Owls, hitting a provisional NAIA qualifying mark in the pole vault, highlighting Day 1 of the Nevada Multi & Invite inside the Reno Convention Center.
Selby finished in a 5-way tie for second in the competition, clearing 4.75 meters (15 feet, 7 inches) in his third and final attempt. The first-year OIT athlete had three cracks at 4.90 meters – which would have broken the Owls indoor school record and hit the NAIA "A" standard, but clipped the bar on each attempt.
On the track,
Tate Wyman posted a career-best time of 22.94 in the 200-meters, leading a contingent of six OIT runners in the event.
Tech will close out competition tomorrow, with field events set for 10 a.m.
