Big Days from Stevens and Patzke Lead Owls at CCC Multis

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Oregon Tech sophomore Eli Stevens won the long jump and placed second in the 100-meters, sitting in second-place after Day 1 of the decathlon at the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships at Banner Bank Track.
 
Stevens recorded a personal-best Day 1 score of 3,343 points – trailing only Eastern Oregon's T.J. Davis (3,641) in the nine-athlete field. Fellow Hustlin' Owl, Bud Patzke, sits in seventh-place after five events, scoring 2,801 points.
 
After opening the day with a season-best 11.37 seconds in the 100-meters, Stevens vaulted to the top of the leaderboard with a leap of 6.65 meters (21 feet, 10 inches). He added a mark of 11.35 meters (37 feet, 3 inches) in the shot put, cleared 1.69 meters (5 feet, 6 ½ inches) in the high jump and took third in the 400-meters (51.93).
 
Patzke took second overall in the high jump (1.78 meters / 5 feet, 10 inches), adding marks of 10 meters (32 feet, 9 ¾ inches) in the shot put and 5.94 meters (19 feet, 6 inches) in the long jump. The first-year OIT athlete clocked a time of 12.09 seconds in the 100-meters and 57.61 seconds in the 400-meters.
 
Day 2 begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles, followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1,500-meters. The Top-8 finishers will score points for the CCC Championships – which will take place May 10-11 at Moehl Stadium on the Oregon Tech campus.
