2025 Women's Soccer Notebook (Week 5)

COMING UP: at Southern Oregon, Friday, 12 p.m.

COMPLETE WEEKLY MEDIA NOTEBOOK

GAME DAY INFORMATION: Friday's match-up in Ashland against Southern Oregon will be streamed live (PPV) via Southern Oregon's SIDEARM Video Platform, with Live Stats available online through OIT's SIDEARM Stats Portal.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: OIT's match-up on Oct. 4 at Rocky Mountain has had an adjusted time to accommodate the Lady Owls travel plans – with kickoff from Billings, Mont., now set for 10:30 a.m. (MDT) / 9:30 a.m. (PDT)

OPPONENT PREVIEW – SOUTHERN OREGON: The Lady Owls put their 4-match win streak, undefeated league record and first-place in the Cascade Conference on the line Friday at rival Southern Oregon. The Raiders (4-1-1, 1-0-1 CCC) have played nearly an identical schedule to Tech's – earning preseason wins over Benedictine Mesa, Simpson and Hope International, with the club dropping a contest to Westcliff. Southern returns a pair of All-CCC selections – leading scorer Frida Vargas (2 goals, 4 assists) and defender Miller Bertani, with the squad looking to Brooklyn Hayes (2 goals, 1 assist), Ava Johnson (2 goals, 1 assist) and Tori Leach (2 goals) for offense, with Brittany Standley (0.80 GAA, 16 saves) the top keeper. SOU holds a 24-12-4 all-time series lead, including wins in 11 of the first 12 meetings from 2000-05, but OIT holds a 2-match win streak in the series and has a 4-2-2 mark against the Raiders since 2021.

DEFENDING THE HOME TURF: During the 26 seasons of women's soccer at OIT, the Lady Owls are 118-60-19 in matches played in Klamath Falls. Since the school installed turf at the on-campus venue in 2017, Tech has been nearly unbeatable, recording a 49-6-8 mark, including a 5-0-1 record in 2025.

LADY OWLS NAMED TEAM OF THE WEEK: It was an eventful week for the Lady Owls – closing non-league play vs. Simpson and opening CCC action vs. Northwest and Evergreen – with the club posting a perfect 3-0 mark, earning Under Armour CCC Team of the Week honors. Tech blanked Simpson, 2-0, before rallying for a 2-1 win over Northwest and cruising to a 3-1 win over Evergreen.

BEST STARTS: OIT enters the weekend 6-1-1 on the year – among the Top-5 starts in program history. The 2020 season (Spring 2021) saw Tech begin 12-1, the 2024 team opened 8-1-1, with the 2004 club starting 6-1. The 2009 team has the longest win streak to begin a new season, starting the year with a 7-0 mark.

OPENING SWEEPS: The sweep of Northwest and Evergreen marked the seventh time an OIT squad began league play with a sweep of their opponents. The 2025 squad joined the 2001, 2010, 2012, 2020, 2021 and 2024 teams to achieve the distinction.

DEFENSE PAVES THE WAY: Defense has been the Lady Owls calling card throughout the first month of the season – holding opponents to 10 shots or fewer in each of their six victories (and one draw) – while allowing just one second half goal on the season. Tech held Northwest to nine shots (just two on goal) in Friday's win, followed by holding Evergreen to four shots (one of frame) in Saturday's victory.

FRESHMAN COMES THROUGH: Tech has received a big boost from true freshman Claire Cowan, as the forward recorded goals in both league matches – including the game-winner against Northwest. Cowan touched home a cross from Sydney Soskis in the 78th minute of the Northwest game to break a 1-1 tie, while a day later, hammered home a cross from Miranda Valle to put the game out of reach. Cowan leads OIT with three goals on the season.

CURRAN PUSHES FORWARD: Outside back Jaylee Curran has had a tremendous start to the 2025 season, anchoring a defense that is allowing just one goal per game, while pushing forward to assist the attack. The sophomore has recorded points in each of the last four matches – including two assists vs. Hope International, the game-winning goal vs. Simpson, adding helpers against both Northwest and Evergreen. Curran ranks third in the CCC with five assists and leads Tech with seven total points on the year.

STARTING 11: Eight matches into the 2025 season, three OIT players have started each of the contests – Raeah Raymondo, Chloe Cook and Emma Glazebrook. In all, 18 different players have started at least one match this season, with 15 players starting multiple contests.

CLIMBING THE WINS LIST: With the win over Evergreen on Saturday, head coach Tom Moore moved into fourth-place on the all-time OIT wins list with his 28th victory. The third-year skipper has a 28-12-6 record with the Owls – four victories away from the No. 3 spot on the all-time list – chasing Bryan Mueller (66), Brandon Porter (43) and Casey Tate (32).

AROUND THE LEAGUE: Three teams – OIT, College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon – each started league play with a 2-0 mark, with Bushnell and Rocky Mountain adding victories in the lone matches. Along with the OIT-SOU match-up, Providence travels to Walla Walla and Warner Pacific, Rocky and Carroll head to Northwest and Evergreen, while Corban and Bushnell make the trip to C of I and EOU.
