Lady Owls 17th After Round 1 at Nationals

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Oregon Tech is near the cut-line following the first round of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at Eagle Crest Golf Club.

The Lady Owls battled tough conditions to card a team score of 319, sitting in a tie for 17th-place. Tech is two strokes off the cut line to play in Rounds 3 and 4 and just five strokes out of eighth-place.

Cascade Conference champs, British Columbia holds the Round 1 lead after a 297, with Marian (Ind.) in second at 301, followed by Keiser (Fla.) 306.

Teams struggled on the par-5 fifth hole, with 137 of the 155 players recording a bogey or worse – with the hole playing to a staggering 6.97 stroke average (including OIT playing the hole at a combined 9-over-par) – forcing the NAIA to make the following statement.

"We regret to confirm that an unfortunate situation occurred at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. The hole on No. 5 was incorrectly placed in a challenging position. We take this matter seriously and have taken immediate steps to ensure this type of situation will not happen again. The NAIA is committed to the student-athlete experience."

Both Madison Dick and Quincy Beyrouty shot matching 79s, sitting in a tie for 43rd. Sydney Dick shot an 80, Madie Hepner an 81, with Baylee Hodgman carding an 83.

The Owls will have the early morning tee-time, starting on Hole 10 at 9:30 a.m. (EDT)
