Â
OPPONENT PREVIEW – PROVIDENCE: Friday, the Hustlin' Owls welcome and improved University of Providence side – as Tech looks to extend a 5-match win streak against the Argos (3-5-2, 3-2-1 CCC). UP opened the season in the Dakotas, going 0-3-1 against teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference, but rebounded with a 4-match unbeaten streak before a Saturday loss to Evergreen. Former Multnomah skipper, Dalon Parker, revamped the team that features five players from Oregon and players from 12 different countries – led by midfielders Musa Jallow (3 goals, 1 assist), Chepito Gonzalez (2 goals, 1 assist) and OIT transfer Pedro Rodrigues (1 goal, 3 assists). Keepers Andrew Schoenen (1.67 GAA, 23 saves) and Teddy Benbow (3.34 GAA, 15 saves) have shared time in goal. Tech holds a 6-4 all-time series lead, including a 4-0 win last season.
Â
QUICK STOP AT HOME: After three-straight road dates and two tough road contests looming next weekend, the Owls return home for a single contest – hoping to continue their success on the Klamath turf. Since the OIT Soccer Field was transitioned from natural grass to an artificial turf surface in 2017, the Owls have posted a 42-12-7 record on their own pitch. Since 2020, Tech has dominated foes, recording a 33-7-6 home record, including a 2-0-1 record at home in 2025.
Â
ONE POINT IN MONTANA: Facing two of the top programs in the Cascade Conference is difficult, facing them on the road is even tougher – which is exactly what the Hustlin' Owls faced in Montana. OIT dropped a 2-0 decision to first-place Carroll, as the Saints scored just three minutes into the match and clamped down defensively, holding Tech without a shot on goal. Two days later, the Owls earned a key point at Rocky Mountain – scoring two goals late in the first half, withstanding a Rocky run in the second half and earning the equalizer inside the final five minutes of the match. OIT enters the week 4-2-4 on the season and 2-2-1 in league play.
Â
FIRST-EVER 3-3 GAME: For the first time in 315 career contests, a Hustlin' Owls match-up ended in a 3-3 score. It was the 32nd tie in program history, with 11 scores ending at 0-0, 13 matches ending at 1-1, with seven matches ending at 2-2. It was the fifth time Tech has been involved in a match with both teams scoring at least three goals.
Â
MOST DRAWS: The draw at Rocky marked the fourth tie of the season for the Owls – equaling the most stalemates in a single season in program history. The 2019 OIT team finished the year with a 10-5-4 overall record, with the 2022 team ending the year with a 13-3-4 mark. Three times, in 2013, 2014 and 2020, an OIT team did not have a draw during the season.
Â
STREAK SNAPPED: Saturday's tie in Billings marked the first time since 2014 that the Owls did not win a game when they scored three goals – ending a 58-match win streak. OIT is now 73-2-1 when scoring three goals – including a 4-3 loss to Warner Pacific in 2008 and a 4-3 loss to Northwest Christian (now Bushnell) in 2014.
Â
GRASS STREAK INTACT: Tech was to have put a five-match unbeaten streak on grass surfaces on the line, but Saturday's match at Rocky was moved to a turf field due to rain. OIT is a combined 2-0-3 in their last five matches on a natural surface, with the last loss in 2022 in the NAIA Tournament at MidAmerica Nazarene. Five schools – Rocky, Evergreen, Northwest, Walla Walla and Providence – play games on grass, with the Owls lone match this season on grass set for Oct. 31 at Walla Walla.
Â
PUSHING FORWARD: The Owls leading scorer is defender Reese Fletcher, who has taken a page out of the book of OIT's second all-time leading scorer, Brock Rideout, who scored 27 goals pushing forward from the back. Fletcher opened the scoring against Rocky with a first half header, his fourth goal of the season. Three other players –
Sylver Schweiger,
Dalton Rideout and
Eric McGuire have each scored two.
Â
LATE GAME HEROICS: For the second time this season, freshman
Eric McGuire came through in crunch time to earn the Hustlin' Owls a point. On Aug. 21, McGuire touched home the tying goal with just over two minutes left to earn a draw vs. Benedictine Mesa. Saturday, McGuire came to the rescue with less than four minutes on the clock, pouncing on a rebound off the right post and driving home the equalizer at Rocky Mountain.
Â
INSIDE THE CCC: It was a big weekend in the Cascade Conference, as Carroll took over sole possession of first-place in the table with a sweep of OIT and Southern Oregon, while Eastern Oregon remained unbeaten with a road win at College of Idaho. Warner Pacific rebounded with a sweep of Corban and Bushnell, with Evergreen logging their first win of the year at Providence – as all 13 schools now have at least a point in CCC play. This week, first-place is on the line as EOU and C of I travel to Carroll and Rocky Mountain, Walla Walla is at Warner Pacific, Providence heads to OIT and Southern, with Evergreen and Northwest off to the Valley to play Bushnell and Corban.
