ASHLAND, Ore. – Mustafa Daggig capitalized on a defensive breakdown with less than five minutes remaining to score the lone goal of the match, as Southern Oregon topped Oregon Tech, 1-0, at Raider Stadium.
A contest that looked to be headed towards a draw turned quickly in the waning moments. The Owls (4-1-3, 2-1 CCC) pushed forward into their offensive third, but SOU defender Kaden Barker sent a long clearance the other direction.
Daggig, at a full sprint, along with Tech defender
Cooper Hunt, chased the ball – with Owls keeper
Harvey Bolland 20 yards out of the box. Bolland tried to clear the ball, but missed and collided with Hunt – allowing Daggig an empty net tap in to keep the Raiders (7-0-1, 3-0) unbeaten on the year.
Both sides had opportunities, with SOU posting a 17-12 edge in total shots – but both keepers were outstanding. Bolland made four saves – all in crucial moments – while Raiders netminder Casey Ruvolo recorded a season-high seven saves to complete the clean sheet.
Both teams hit the road next weekend to Montana, playing matches at Carroll College and Rocky Mountain.
