CORVALLIS, Ore. – A record-setting week netted Oregon Tech's
Aleksen Thayer Rize Laboratory-Cascade Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office.
The sophomore, from Truckee, Calif., was instrumental in the Lady Owls finishing the week with a 5-1 record, including a sweep of four matches at the Hope International Summer Slam.
Thayer set a new 5-set school record with 13 blocks last Monday against Benedictine Mesa – the most blocks by an OIT player in a decade – while adding 10 blocks in Saturday's victory over Hope International.
For the week, Thayer finished with 35 total blocks, averaging 1.59 blocks per set – and currently leads the CCC in total blocks (41), ranking No. 2 in blocks per set (1.41).
The Lady Owls return to action on Thursday night, opening the home schedule at 6 p.m. against rival and No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon.
