SALEM, Ore. –
Sarah Abramson continued her dominance of the Cascade Conference, tossing the first perfect game of her collegiate career, helping top-ranked Oregon Tech to a doubleheader sweep of Corban University at Warrior Field.
The Lady Owls (29-5, 15-1 CCC) recorded their 13th shutout of the season in the 4-0 Game 1 win, while using a 4-run second inning to break open a 9-2 victory in the late game.
Abramson struck out nine batters, getting six fly outs and six ground outs en route to her second career no-hitter – picking up her 16th-straight win – as the Lady Owls maintained their 2-game lead in the conference standings.
OIT got all the run support they needed in the third inning of the opener, as
McKenna Armantrout executed a perfect squeeze bunt to plate
Maddie DeVerna from third, with Armantrout scoring on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Two innings later, Tech doubled the lead, as a 2-out error by the Warriors (12-20, 6-9) allowed
Olivia Sprague to score, with
Jensen Becker following with a run-scoring single.
"What can I say," remarked OIT head coach
Greg Stewart. "Sarah was absolutely dominant with her throwing and McKenna calling a perfect game. I am so proud of them and this entire team for the way they go out and compete week in and week out. We had some timely hits in Game 1 and play solid in Game 2."
Armantrout went 2-for-4 in the win for the Lady Owls, with eight of the nine starters recording a hit.
In Game 2, Tech bolted to a 7-0 lead after three innings and cruised to the win.
Mckenzie Staub helped her own cause with a first inning 2-run double, with the Owls adding RBI singles from
Kaila Mick and
Aubrie Businger and a
Kennedy Jantzi RBI double in a 4-run second, extending the margin to 6-0.
Corban cut the deficit to 7-2 in the fourth on a Paia'ala Wilcox-Molina 2-run single, but OIT answered in the sixth with a 2-run homer from
Kacie Schmidt.
Staub improved to 11-2 on the season with five innings of 4-hit ball, with seven different Lady Owls recording a hit.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
