SALEM, Ore. –
Sarah Abramson continued her dominance of Corban University, as the Oregon Tech right-hander tossed her second no-hitter of the weekend, helping the Lady Owls complete a 4-game sweep at Warrior Field.
The senior worked around two walks and fanned six in a 5-0 victory in Game 1, while Tech completed the perfect weekend with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
OIT (31-5, 16-1 CCC) maintained their 2-game lead in the league standings, securing their 22nd 30-win season in program history and their 11th-straight 30-win campaign (minus the 2020 shortened COVID season).
The Lady Owls manufactured an unearned run in the first inning of Game 1, as
Kaila Mick reached on a dropped fly ball in left and eventually scored on a
Jayce Seavert sacrifice fly. Tech doubled the lead in the fourth on
Kennedy Jantzi's fourth home run of the season, with a
Mckenzie Staub RBI ground out in the sixth pushing the margin to 3-0.
It was more than enough for Abramson, who allowed just one runner into scoring position, picking up her league-leading 18th win. Seavert and Jantzi had two hits apiece, part of a 7-hit OIT attack.
"Congrats again to Sarah and McKenna," said OIT head coach,
Greg Stewart. "In all my years, I have never seen or even heard of a pitcher throwing back-to-back no-hitters at our level. We can always get better offensively, but our pitching staff is dialed in."
Game 2 featured offense, with Seavert starting the scoring with a 2-run first inning homer, her ninth of 2022. Tech would extend the margin to 4-1 in the fifth on an
Aubrie Businger RBI groundout and push the lead to 6-2 in the seventh on a Jantzi RBI single.
The Warriors (12-22, 6-11) finally got to Abramson in the seventh inning – as a Tori Beasley RBI triple ended Abramson's hitless streak at 14.2 innings, but the OIT hurler struck out Megan Wyllie to end the game.
Mick and
McKenna Armantrout each had two hits for the Lady Owls, with
Jenna Gorden picking up her first win of the season with four strong innings – allowing a run on seven hits.
Tech returns to action next weekend, with a 4-game series at British Columbia, beginning Saturday afternoon.
