ROCKLIN, CA – The #1 ranked Lady Owls (2-2) might have found their kryptonite just two days into their 2022 campaign. After flying past Menlo in the first game on Saturday, Tech lost a late lead and fell to William Jessup (3-0) for the second time in as many days. The Lady Owls got an inspired performance from Kennedy Jantzi who went 7-for-8 across the two games, but her side came up just short.
#1 Oregon Tech 8 Menlo College 0 (5 innings)
With the chance to grab a weekend sweep over Menlo, Tech seized the opportunity.
The Lady Owls used an onslaught in the 4th inning to plate seven runs, forcing the run-rule to come into effect in the 5th inning.
In the 4th, OIT used a pair of 2RBI triples from Jensen Becker and Kennedy Jantzi to breakthrough.
While the bats were hot, Sarah Abramson held it down in the circle for her first victory of her senior season.
Abramson threw five innings, allowing only two hits while striking out six.
Tech was led at the plate by Kennedy Jantzi, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
William Jessup 5 Oregon Tech 4 (8 Innings)
With revenge on their minds, Tech was looking to avenge their opening loss to William Jessup.
In the rematch from Friday's contest, Tech drew first blood in the third inning.
Kaila Mick reached on a fielder's choice to score Jaycee Seavert, then Kennedy Jantzi plated Mick with an RBI single.
Tech would add two more in the fourth and soon found themselves ahead 4-1.
Heading into the bottom of the 6th, Tech had remained in control for the bulk of the afternoon, but three straight RBI singles from the hosts knotted the score at 4-4.
The two sides would remain tied through the 7th, needing extra innings to decide it. After Tech failed to score the automatic runner on 2nd base, Jessup won it in the bottom half on an RBI single once again.
The loss for Tech was charged to Kacie Schmidt, who didn't allow an earned run but unfortunately allowed two hits and walked three in 1.1 innings of work.
Mckenzie Staub toed the rubber for OIT for five innings prior, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Jessup was led at the plate by Nash, who went 3-for-4, as did Kennedy Jantzi for Tech, who led the Lady Owls at the plate.
The Lady Owls will return to action next weekend when they face (R.V.) Vanguard and Simpson in another two-day doubleheader slate.
