#1 Lady Owls Settle For Third Straight Doubleheader Split

REDDING, CA – The #1 ranked Lady Owls (3-3) settled for a third straight split on Friday, dropping game one to (RV) Vanguard (9-1) by a 3-2 score before defeating (RV) Simpson (3-5) by the same 3-2 score. Tech will face off against both teams tomorrow with the opportunity to earn their first doubleheader sweep of the season.

Game One: (RV) Vanguard University 3 #1 Oregon Tech 2 (10-innings)
Looking to get back on track, Tech lost a 10-inning thriller on Saturday to a Vanguard side who received votes in the NAIA Preseason Poll.

Vanguard got on the board first with a sacrifice fly, which gave the Lions a 1-0 lead until the 6th inning.

In the bottom of the 6th, Tech plated two runs on a HBP and a single with the bases loaded to go ahead 2-1.

Vanguard would eventually tie the game in the top of the 7th with two outs to force extra innings.

In the extra frames, Tech had multiple chances to win with runners on base with no outs but couldn't grab a run, resulting in Vanguard winning it in the 10th.

Sarah Abramson was brilliant in the circle, going all ten innings, but unfortunately was charged with the loss.

The senior threw 123 pitches, giving up two runs on only three hits while walking five and striking out nine.

Tech was led at the plate by Jensen Becker, who went 2-for-3 with a walk, and a run scored.

Vanguard was led at the plate by Lailoni Mayfield, who went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Game Two: #1 Oregon Tech 3 (RV) Simpson University 2

Looking for revenge in game two, Tech used a big sixth inning to propel themselves to victory.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth, Tech exploded for three runs on five hits, highlighted by a Jayce Seavert two-run HR.

With McKenzie Staub in the circle, the sophomore would shut Simpson down in the 7th to pick up a much-needed win for the Lady Owls.

Staub threw seven complete innings, allowing two runs on only one hit while walking five and striking out seven.

Grijalva picked up the loss for Simpson, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, while walking two.

Tech was led at the plate by Zoe Allen, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Lady Owls will be back in action tomorrow to face off against the same two sides, at 11:00AM and 1:00PM.
