Hustlin’ Owls Fall 2-1 at EOU

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon (5-2-1, 3-1 CCC) scored the game winning goal late in the second half, breaking-up a 1-1 tie as the Mountaineers downed Oregon Tech (3-4-1, 2-2 CCC) 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Cascade Conference play at Community Stadium.

Tech Head Coach Matt Munhall said, "Today's matchup was very even. We knew going into the contest the team that made less errors would most likely be the winner. EOU pounced on one late mistake and made us pay. We are playing very well against all of our opponents. Today just wasn't our day."

EOU took an early 1-0 lead when Conner Young scored his fourth goal of the year as he headed in double volley from Steven Beaudry and Alex Gutierrez in the 8th minute.

Tech's Trinidad Flores then tied the game as he scored his fourth goal of the weekend in the 40th minute.

EOU's Carlos Solorio netted the game winner and his team-best fifth goal of the year in the 82nd minute, calmly slotting the ball past the Tech keeper.

The goal came after an extremely closely played second half that featured 20 total shots between the two teams and a 11-9 advantage for the Owls. Eastern Oregon played shutdown defense for the final eight minutes to seal the victory.

The Hustlin' Owls return for two games this Friday and Saturday as they host Corban University and Northwest Christian University respectively at 4:00 pm at the OIT Soccer Field.
