WHAT'S AT STAKE: The winner of the CCC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships. If Lewis-Clark State wins the title, the tournament runner-up will earn the bid, as LC receives an automatic berth to the NAIA Opening Round as the World Series host team.
IN THE POSTSEASON: The Hustlin' Owls are set to make their fifth trip to the playoffs in six seasons and their 17th overall playoff appearance. The Owls made five trips to the NAIA District II Tournament (1974, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1989), three trips to the NAIA Region I Tournament (2004, 2005, 2006), four trips to the NAIA West Tournament (2009, 2010, 2013, 2017) and CCC Tournament appearances in 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Last season, OIT earned their first-ever NAIA Tournament bid, placing fourth in the Lewiston Opening Round Bracket. Tech is a combined 15-34 all-time in postseason games.
HISTORY AT CCC TOURNAMENT: OIT has reached the league tournament semifinals on five occasions – in 1981, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2025 – while reaching the title game in 1982, 2010 and 2023. In 1982, Tech dropped a 3-1 decision to Lewis & Clark College in a winner-take-all championship game of the District 2 Tournament; in 2010, the Owls lost to UBC, 11-3, in Vancouver at the NAIA West Tournament; while in 2023, the squad dropped a 11-7 decision to UBC in Springfield, Ore., in the CCC Tournament final.
TECH TO OPEN VS. BUSHNELL: Fifth-seed OIT meets No. 4 seed Bushnell in Friday's tourney opener – as the Beacons (25-25) won 3-of-4 meetings this season – all in Springfield. Bushnell enters the tournament with a .295 team batting average – but have a powerful lineup led by Player of the Year candidate Albert Jennings (.399 7 HR 51 RBI), along with sluggers Nate Stevens (.320 14 HR 44 RBI) and Dylan Carson (.292 13 HR 42 RBI). A trio of power arms anchor the Beacons rotation – lefty Kai Keamo (4-5 4.97 ERA) and righties Austin Wolfe (6-3 4.71 ERA) and D.J. Kauahi (4-1 4.55 ERA). Last season, Tech eliminated Bushnell from the tournament, 6-5, in the only postseason match-up between the teams.
OTHER TOURNAMENT TEAMS: The OIT-Bushnell winner will meet host and No. 4-ranked Lewis-Clark State, who claimed the host site due to a head-to-head tiebreaker with British Columbia. LC (38-7) averages a league-best 9.5 runs per game, with the offense led by the trio of Jackson Jaha (.429 9 HR 34 RBI), Izzy Madariaga (.382 9 HR 49 RBI) and Brandon Ngugyen (.357 12 HR 41 RBI). The defending CCC champs have the top pitching staff in the NAIA (3.25 ERA), led by Jackson Cloud (6-0 2.75 ERA) and Evan Canfield (7-1 3.77 ERA). Game 2 on Friday pits No. 2 seed UBC and No. 3 seed College of Idaho. The No. 24-ranked T-Birds (36-13) would have hosted the tournament if not for a loss Saturday to Bushnell – with David Krahn (.370 7 HR 46 RBI), Kyle Yip (.342 7 HR 41 RBI) and Kellen Bourne (.275 8 HR 45 RBI) keying a potent middle of the lineup. Starters Myles Chamberlain (9-1 3.15 ERA) and James Brock (8-3 4.76 ERA) lead the CCC in wins. The Yotes (29-19) use speed to their advantage, leading the league with 129 stolen bases – led by the middle infield duo of James Hull (.337 3 HR 36 RBI) and Caden Casagrande (.303 4 HR 33 RBI). Lefty Calvin Euper (3-1 2.81 ERA) and righty Heath Sasser Gunson (3-3 3.40 ERA) lead a deep pitching staff.
SPLIT WITH C OF I NETS PLAYOFF BID: Tech had a magic number of three heading into the College of Idaho series to clinch a playoff spot – and saw that number drop to one after splitting Saturday's twinbill with the Yotes and Eastern splitting with Corban. Despite a Game 3 loss to C of I, Tech was helped by an 11-10 EOU win on Sunday – securing the postseason spot. OIT bats recorded 16 hits in the series opener – the tenth-straight game with double-digit hits, while the 11-runs scored in the Game 4 victory was the 19th time the Owls plated 10-or-more runs in a game.
NINTH INNING RALLY: After squandering an eighth inning lead a Game 1 loss and squandering an eighth inning lead in Game 4 – the Owls were in need of magic, with seniors
Jacob Cook and
Michael O'Daniel providing the punch. Trailing 10-8 in the ninth,
Landon Cheney walked and Cook followed with a long 2-run homer of the right field wall to tie the game. Two walks and a bloop single later, O'Daniel hit a line drive to right, deep enough to score
Logan Williams from third to give Tech their first ninth inning or later walk off win since 2024. It was the first win in 2026 when trailing after eight innings and first since a 7-run ninth inning rally at UBC last season gave the Owls an 8-4 win.
GLAVICH GOES THE DISTANCE: Tech needed a big effort on the mound on Saturday, as senior
Carson Glavich provided it on the big stage, recording the first 9-inning complete game by an OIT pitcher since 2021. The lefty allowed just six hits and a run, as the Owls claimed a crucial 5-1 victory over C of I, throwing 121 pitches in his gem. The last 9-inning complete game was thrown by Patrick Arman at C of I in 2021, while the last 9-inning complete game in the Basin was tossed by John Schulz against LC State in 2019.
4-HIT GAMES: Two Hustlin' Owls recorded 4-hit games during the C of I series, as
Logan Pontecorvo was 4-for-5 in Game 1 and
Nick Gimino was 4-for-5 in Game 4. For Pontecorvo, it was his team-leading third 4-hit game, finishing the weekend 6-for-12 with two doubles and two RBI. Gimino logged his second 4-hit game of 2026, leading the Owls at the plate with eight hits in the series – going 8-for-16 with four runs scored and five RBI.
MACY STREAK SNAPPED: After going nearly two months without having a zero-hit game,
Logan Macy saw his 26-game hit streak snapped in Game 3 of the C of I series. The run marked the second-longest hitting streak in OIT history, trailing only a 37-game hit streak between the 2024-25 seasons by
Patrick Barry. Macy, however, reached base in the Game 3, extending a streak of games reaching base to 35 – chasing the OIT record of 52, set by
Tyler Horner in 2025.
