REDDING, Calif. – Dominant pitching from
Kristine Schmidt and
Carli Moore limited Simpson to four hits on the day, while the Oregon Tech bats exploded for 9-1 and 11-0 run-rule victories to close out the 4-game weekend series in the Sacramento River Valley.
Schmidt allowed a first inning unearned run in the opener, holding the hosts to three hits in the win, while Moore tossed a 1-hit shutout, allowing just one walk and striking out five.
The No. 4-ranked Lady Owls (19-3, 5-1 CCC) tied Game 1 in the third on a 2-out
Puakea Milbourne double, before erupting for a 4-run fourth, keyed by a bases-clearing double from
Gina Allen and a RBI double from
Nita Cook.
The extra base hit parade continued in the fifth, as
Leah Huffman lined a 2-run double to extend the margin to 7-1, while Mick and
Addison Kachnik delivered RBI singles in the sixth to put the run-rule in effect.
Kachnik was 3-for-4 in the victory, with Allen, Mick and Huffman all recording two hits.
Game 2 was dominated by Moore, who had a 5-0 lead to work with before throwing her first pitch. Tech batted around in the opening inning – prolonged by a 2-out error – as RBI singles by Mick and Huffman were followed by a key 2-run triple from
Hayden Rockwell.
Mick extended the margin to 8-0 in the second with a 2-run triple and Milbourne capped the scoring with a third inning 3-run homer.
Moore gave up a first inning single to the Redhawks (6-15, 1-2) Madison Chapman, but allowed just three base runners the rest of the day.
Mick was 3-for-3 in the Game 2 win, with Milbourne, Kachnik and Rockwell each going 2-for-3.
The Lady Owls return home next weekend for a 4-game series against Warner Pacific at Stilwell Stadium.
