Schmidt Tosses No-Hitter, Tech Sweeps Friday Twinbill

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Kristine Schmidt tossed the 21st no-hitter by an Oregon Tech pitcher since 2000, highlighting a dominating day in the circle for the Lady Owls in a doubleheader sweep of Warner Pacific at Stilwell Stadium.

The No. 4-ranked Owls (21-3, 7-1 CCC) earned an 8-0 victory in five innings in Game 1, while Tech cruised to a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Schmidt worked around three walks and eight strikeouts to claim the victory in the opener, while retiring all six batters in relief to notch her second save of the year in Game 2 – after Alli Parker worked five innings of 2-hit ball.

Addison Kachnik staked Tech out to early leads in both games – belting a 3-run homer in the first inning of Game 1, adding a 2-run single in the opening inning of Game 2.

Sawyer Stenson had two doubles in the early win, including a run-scoring knock in the third inning that gave Tech a 5-0 lead. The Owls got a Puakea Milbourne 2-run double in the fourth and a walk-off RBI single from Brooklyn Loose in the fifth to end the game.

Stenson and Leah Huffman each were 2-for-3 in the Game 1 win.

The Knights (10-10, 5-3), who were off to their best start in league play in program history, got two hits in Game 2 from Noe Barawis and plated an unearned run in the second to cut Tech's lead to 2-1 – but the momentum was short-lived.

Kachnik lined an RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 3-1, with Loose adding a pair of RBI singles – one in the fourth and another starting a 3-run sixth inning rally – which was bolstered by a Gina Allen RBI double and a Nita Cook RBI single.

Allen had two doubles and three runs scored in the win, with Cook, Kachnik and Loose all recording multi-hit games.

The two teams close the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
