KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech swept a Saturday doubleheader with Corban University at Stilwell Stadium, as the Lady Owls secured their 15th-straight 30-win season, dating back to 2010.
Tech (30-4, 13-2 CCC) outlasted the Warriors, 3-2, in an 8-inning opener, before claiming the non-conference Game 2, 6-1. The Lady Owls remain one-game ahead of Eastern Oregon for first-place in the Cascade Conference standings.
Upset-minded Corban (3-23, 3-12) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1, as Payton Foreman doubled home a run, but a
Jazmine Macias RBI ground out in the second evened the score. The Owls would manufacture a fifth inning run, as
Malia Mick walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a
Gina Allen, giving the hosts a lead, but Foreman answered with a 2-out RBI single in the sixth to tie the game.
After stranding runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh, the Owls broke through in the eighth, as
Leah Huffman singled, moved to third on a sacrifice and wild pitch, scoring the winning run on a Mick single.
Alli Parker earned the win in relief, throwing three shutout innings, with
Brooklyn Loose recording two doubles for the Owls. Foreman and McKenna Hanson each had two hits for Corban.
OIT never trailed in Game 2, as Allen roped a first inning 2-run triple to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead. Corban would plate a run on a second inning passed ball, but Mick singled to start the third, stole second and scored on a
Puakea Milbourne single to extend the margin to 3-1.
The Owls put the game out of reach in the fifth, as
Addison Kachnik singled in run, with Milbourne and Allen following with back-to-back RBI doubles.
Jenna Gorden allowed two hits in four innings of work for the Game 2 win, while
Carli Moore worked the final three innings, scattering three hits, for the save. Allen finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, with both Mick and Milbourne adding two hits.
Josie Landis and Isabel Carattini had two hits in the loss for the Warriors.
Tech hits the road next weekend for Friday-Saturday doubleheaders at Bushnell.
