No. 1-Ranked Lady Owls Sweep DH at Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Nita Cook was 5-for-6 on the day, Brooklyn Loose drove in four runs and Oregon Tech rode quality starts from Kristine Schmidt and Alli Parker to a doubleheader sweep at Bushnell.

The No. 1-ranked Lady Owls (32-4, 15-2 CCC) rallied for a 5-2 win in Game 1, while Parker tossed a 2-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory in Game 2. The two wins clinched OIT a spot in the 6-team Cascade Conference Championships in May.

Tech grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening inning of Game 1, as Cook sprinted home on a Beacons (5-23, 2-12) throwing error, but BU answered with single runs in the first and second on RBI singles from Violet Richardson and Makenzie Alexander.

The Beacons held the one-run lead until the sixth, as OIT put runners at the corners and Sawyer Stenson dropped down a perfect safety squeeze to score the tying run and Loose followed with a go-ahead 2-run double.

An inning later, Puakea Milbourne extended the lead to 5-2 with a sacrifice fly.

Schmidt rebounded from the slow start, facing the minimum over the final five innings, allowing just three total hits and striking out five. Cook, Stenson and Addison Kachnik each had two hits in the win.

Game 2 was dominated by Parker, who earned her tenth win of the season – as BU never had a runner reach third base.

Loose continued her big day with a go-ahead RBI single in the second, followed by a Hayden Rockwell RBI double. Milbourne made it 3-0 in the third with her sixth home run of the season, before Loose extended the margin to 4-0 with a fourth inning RBI double. Kachnik closed the scoring with a fifth inning sacrifice fly and a seventh inning RBI double.

Both Cook and Loose had three hits in the victory, as Parker fanned eight, without issuing a walk, in the win.

The two teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
