Parker Gem Help Lady Owls Earn Split with Corban

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Alli Parker retired the first 12 batters she faced, striking out nine, as Oregon Tech rebounded from a stunning Game 1 loss to top Corban, 7-1, at Stilwell Stadium.

The No. 2 ranked Owls (28-4, 12-2 CCC) saw their 10-game win streak snapped in the opener, as Corban used a 2-out, 2-run seventh inning rally to steal the opener, 2-1.

Parker was outstanding, working around three fifth inning hits, to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Tech never trailed in Game 2, as Puakea Milbourne lined a 2-out RBI single in the first inning and following an error by the Warriors (3-21, 3-11), Leah Huffman walked with the bases loaded and Jazmine Macias lined an RBI single off the foot of Corban pitcher Kate Banks.

Malia Mick extended the lead to 4-0 in the third with an RBI single, with Milbourne driving home a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly.

Corban got a run back in the fifth on an Irene Van Dyke single, but Milbourne and Leah Huffman lined RBI singles in the sixth to close the scoring.

Milbourne and Mick each had two hits in the win for Tech, with Payton Foreman recording two hits, including a double, for Corban.

Game 1 was a pitchers duel between OIT's Kristine Schmidt and Corban's Miranda Scovil. The Warriors had a chance in the fifth, putting runners at 2nd-and-3rd with no outs, but Schmidt got consecutive strikeouts and a ground out to end the threat. Tech stranded runners in each of the first four innings, before Brooklyn Loose led off the fifth with a single and scored on a 2-out Addison Kachnik single.

Corban was down to their final strike, but Leata Senio coaxed the only walk of the game by Schmidt. The OIT ace worked a 2-strike count to pinch-hitter Brookelynne Morley, who slapped a rise ball into the right-center gap for a triple to tie the game. On the next pitch, Breanna Crosby blooped an RBI single into right-center to cap the improbable comeback.

Scovil did the rest, as the drop-ball artist held the CCC's top offense to seven hits in earning her first win of the year.

Huffman and Kachnik had 2-hit games in the loss for OIT.

The two teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
