LC State Spoils Hustlin' Owls Home Opener

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State spoiled the home opener for Oregon Tech, as the No. 12-ranked Warriors capitalized on 12 walks, six hit-by-pitches and 10 errors to sweep a doubleheader from the Hustlin' Owls at Bocchi Field.

LC (16-3, 8-3 CCC) used a 5-run eighth inning to pull away for a 15-6 win in Game 1, while the Idaho school scored the final 13 runs of the nightcap, winning 14-3.

Logan Macy had a 2-run double and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning of the opener, erasing an early 3-0 Warriors advantage. LC would answer with a Jackson Reed single in the second and a 2-run Bryce Johnson homer in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead, but the Owls (12-12, 5-7) pulled within 8-6 in the fifth on Cal Pickhardt's fourth homer of the season.

The Owls couldn't get closer against the Warriors pen, as Jordan Lennartson tossed three shutout frames for the save, while the LC bats plated seven runs over the final three innings.

Jackson Jaha was 5-for-6 with four RBI and Johnson had three hits and three RBI for LC, while Macy was 2-for-3 in the loss for Tech.

OIT answered an early 1-0 deficit with three 2-out run scoring singles in the second – as Michael O'Daniel, Nick Gimino and JoJo Roman delivered RBI hits. The 3-1 lead lasted until the fourth, when Izzy Madariaga lined a 2-run double to give LC the lead, with the Warriors pouring on the runs late, including six runs in a decisive eighth inning.

Madariaga was 3-for-4 for the Warriors in the win, while Jacob Cook was 3-for-4 in the loss for the Owls.

The two teams close out the 4-game series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
