KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech began the defense of 4-straight Cascade Conference regular-season titles on a good note, sweeping a doubleheader from rival College of Idaho at Stilwell Stadium.
The No. 10-ranked Lady Owls (14-2, 2-0 CCC) rallied for a 7-5 victory in Game 1, before using a 15-hit attack to win Game 2, 9-6.
Alli Parker earned the win in both games, combining to throw six and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing just four hits and striking out nine.
Tech trailed 5-2 in the fourth inning of the opener, as the Yotes (11-5, 0-2) broke a 1-1 tie in the second with a Kina Watts 2-run homer and extended the lead in the fourth on a 2-run Kamryn Ham double.
The home side battled back, getting a
Gina Allen sacrifice fly in the fourth and a
Malia Mick RBI double in the fifth to pull within 5-4. Allen capped the rally later in the fifth, slamming a 3-run homer, her third of the season, to provide the winning margin.
Parker retired all eight batters in relief for the win, with Mick,
Leah Huffman,
Puakea Milbourne and
Nita Cook each recording 2-hit games.
In the nightcap, C of I grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third on a 2-run Madelyn Powell double, but
Addison Kachnik answered in the bottom of the frame, clearing the bases with a double – part of a 3-for-5, five RBI game for the senior.
C of I pulled within 5-4 in the fifth, but a Kachnik double added to the lead and the Lady Owls tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth.
Parker worked four strong innings for the win, with Milbourne going 4-for-4 and Cook going 3-for-4 in the victory. Both Allen and
Jazmine Macias had 2-hit games.
Ham and Powell had two hits for the Yotes, with Watts and Chloe Flerschinger each hitting home runs.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
