Lady Owls Sweep Saturday Games in Redding

REDDING, Calif. – An ever changing schedule did not affect the Oregon Tech bats, as the Lady Owls completed a 5-1 trip to the Simpson Crossover with a pair of Saturday wins at th Redding Sports Park.

The Lady Owls (12-2) had to wait to play after their early game vs. Arizona Christian was canceled, as the Firestorm had a timing issue with their return flight home. After the delay, Tech rallied for a 4-2 win over Park Gilbert, before picking up a non-league game with host Simpson, rolling to a 9-2 victory.

Against Park (6-8), all six runs in the contest were scored in the fifth inning. The Buccaneers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top half after a 2-out, 2-run double from Arianna Fjeldsted. Sawyer Stenson answered with one swing, clearing the bases with a 3-run double, with Brooklyn Loose following with an RBI double.

It was enough for Kristine Schmidt, who tossed two-plus shutout innings of relief for her sixth win. Nita Cook was 3-for-4, with Addison Kachnik and Loose each recording 2-hit games.

The added game with the Redhawks (5-11) was a runaway, as the Owls pounded out 15 hits to benefit Alli Parker, as the righty struck out a career-high 10 batters in the complete game effort.

Kachnik and Loose singled home first inning runs to give OIT the lead, with Puakea Milbourne doubling home two in the second. Ashlyn Vey added her first RBI hit, a fifth inning single, to provide insurance.

Both Cook and Kachnik had 3-hit games, with Malia Mick adding a 2-for-2 effort.

The Lady Owls open Cascade Conference play next weekend, hosting College of Idaho.
