Bats Go Silent as Owls Drop Twinbill at Corban

KEIZER, Ore. – Oregon Tech bats were silences by Corban pitching, as the Warriors limited the Hustlin' Owls to one run on the day, sweeping a Saturday Cascade Conference doubleheader at Roto Rooter Park.

Robert Hays threw a 3-hit shutout in a Game 1 3-0 Warriors (5-9, 3-1 CCC) victory, while Isaac Bateman and two relievers limited the Tech offense to seven hits in a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

Corban scored three unearned runs in the first two innings of the opener off OIT (8-6, 1-3) starter Noah Loew – who surrendered just three hits in six innings. Bateman walked with the bases loaded in the first, while JC Klee singled home a run and Sean Shaffer had a sacrifice fly in a 2-run second.

Caleb Randolph tossed two shutout innings to keep Tech close, but the offense was unable to get a runner to third.

OIT had just two runners in scoring position – fourth inning Logan Pontecorvo double, with two runners reaching in the ninth – but Hays got out of both jams in his 92-pitch complete game.

Tech fell behind 3-0 in Game 2, as the Warriors got a second inning RBI single from Klee and added a pair of run-scoring singles in the third.

The Owls broke through in the seventh on back-to-back doubles from JoJo Roman and Andrew Sharp – but Eddie Gould retired the final seven batters in order for the save.

Bateman allowed five hits and struck out four in the win.

Relievers Kaden Melzer and Collin Hysell combined for five shutout innings – allowing just four hits. Sharp was 3-for-4 and Jacob Cook was 2-for-4 in the loss for Tech.

OIT returns to action next weekend, traveling to Eastern Oregon for a 4-game series.
