KEIZER, Ore. – Sitting 12 outs away from being swept in the first Cascade Conference doubleheader, Oregon Tech rallied from a 6-2 deficit to score the final seven runs, topping Corban, 9-6, to split twinbill at Roto Rooter Park.
The Warriors (3-9, 1-1 CCC) used a 17-hit attack in Game 1 to claim a run-rule, 11-1 win.
In the nightcap,
Nick Gimino delivered the go-ahead RBI single in a 3-run seventh inning rally, while the Owls (8-4, 1-1) got four shutout innings of relief from redshirt freshman
Marcos Ulloa-Ford for his second win.
Tech took a 2-1 lead in the second, thanks to a
Michael O'Daniel RBI triple and a Nik Holouchits sacrifice fly, but Corban answered with two in the second and third, adding an Isaac Bateman RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead.
The Owls battled back in the sixth, as
JoJo Roman launched a solo homer and two batters later, O'Daniel belted a 2-run shot. OIT would load the bases with two outs and
Logan Pontecorvo was walked to force in the tying run.
An inning later, Tech played small ball, as a walk and sacrifice set the table for Gimino's single.
Andrew Sharp provided insurance with a 2-run double to cap the scoring.
Ulloa-Ford was dominant, allowing just three hits and striking out three in the victory. Sharp, Gimino and O'Daniel each had two hits for Tech.
Game 1 was a runaway for Corban, as Chase Elliott and Scott Schafer each went 3-for-4 and Peyton Rickard drove in three runs for the Warriors.
The hosts led 7-0 after four innings before
Logan Macy hit a solo homer, his second of the year, to provide OIT's lone run. A 2-run seventh ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
Jack Kovanen threw a complete-game seven-hitter for Corban in the victory, while Pontecorvo was the lone OIT player with a 2-hit game.
The two teams close the series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader.
