Lady Owls Earn Run-Rule Wins at Arizona Christian

GLENDALE, Ariz. – In a match-up of two 2025 NAIA National Tournament teams, Oregon Tech earned consecutive run-rule victories over host Arizona Christian, claiming 8-0 and 10-2 victories under the lights at the ACU Softball Field.

The No. 10-ranked Lady Owls (6-0) rode a gem in Game 1 from Kristine Schmidt, while capitalizing on a 14-hit attack to win the late game.

Schmidt was in control throughout the opener, scattering just two hits and striking out eight for her third victory.

OIT gave Schmidt all the run support she needed in the second – as consecutive errors with the bases-loaded plated two runs and Gina Allen followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Tech would double the lead in the fifth – as following a Cook bases-loaded walk, Malia Mick cleared the bases with a 3-run triple, part of a 2-for-4 game.

ACU (2-4) struck first in Game 2, as Dayna Herrera slugged a first inning homer, only to see OIT answer with a 5-run second. Sawyer Stenson gave the Lady Owls the lead with a 2-run double, Leah Huffman singled in a run and Cook singled home a pair.

The lead grew to 6-1 in the third on a solo opposite field home run from Puakea Milbourne – with the Owls adding three in the fifth and a run in the sixth to close out the win.

Jenna Gorden allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work for the win, with Alli Parker fanning four in two shutout innings of relief. Six players – Cook, Milbourne, Stenson, Huffman, Addison Kachnik and Jazmine Macias each had two hits for the Lady Owls.

OIT closes out the trip tomorrow with a key doubleheader vs. Hope International.
