Eight in Double-Figures Lead Lady Owls Past Walla Walla

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A record-setting eight Oregon Tech players scored in double-figures, as the Lady Owls scored 33 points off Walla Walla turnovers, cruising to a 104-46 victory at Danny Miles Court.

OIT (15-7, 11-3 CCC) pulled into a 4-way tie for first-place in the Cascade Conference standings and clinched a spot in the 8-team CCC Championships.

The Lady Owls had just nine players in uniform due to injury and illness – with every player seeing at least 11 minutes of game action.

The visiting Wolves (3-17, 1-13) were in a similar position – suiting just six players – and hung with Tech through the first 12 minutes, trailing just 23-18 after a Delaney Gunther triple.

From there, Tech put on the press, forcing eight turnovers in a five-minute window – including turnovers on 4-straight possessions – to blow the game open. Tatum Schmerbach scored twice in a 10-point run to start the surge, while Olivia Sprague had three steals and three layups as the run extended to 24-5 – with the Owls taking a 54-28 lead to the half.

Kendall Fealey had six quick points to start the third quarter, part of a 15-2 run to push the lead to 69-30 – as the Owls ran away with the contest.

Schmerbach had 19 points, 11 rebounds and four steals in the victory – her 28th-straight game with 10-or-more points. Chelsea Ching had a career-night, connecting on 5-of-7 3-pointers, scoring 15 points. Sprague had 13 points, six assists and a season-high six steals, Fealey, Jozie Ramos and Avery Andrews each scored 12, Ayla Marston had 11 and Maddie Eischen tallied 10.

It was the fifth-straight game the Lady Owls have scored 80-or-more points, with the team converting 54% of their field goals. Tech had more offensive rebounds (23) than WWU had rebounds (22).

Ally Haslam led the Wolves with a career-high 25 points, with Gunther scoring nine.

OIT hits the road next weekend for key dates at Corban and Bushnell.
